I’LL SAVE US Kerr defiant as Rovers tumble towards the drop zone

- Mark Pirie

Albion Rovers boss Brian Kerr has vowed to turn his sides form around as they battle in the relegation scrap.

The Coatbridge outfit are fighting near the foot of the table following a dire run - with just one win in their last 15 league games, and losing their last six in all competitions.

They are now sitting just one-point above Forfar and Queen’s Park who occupy the relegation play-off place and bottom spot in League One.

The former Scotland cap believes they will be able to rip up the form book as they welcome league leaders Raith to Cliftonhill.

He believes they just need a win to rescue their stuttering season.

“It’s been frustrating, but we are working tirelessly to turn this around,” said the gaffer.

“We have no concerns that we will be able to do that. We need that confidence boosting result.

“I don’t care if it’s a horrendous 1-0 win and the ball bounces off someone and goes in, we just need get that win.”

He added: “It can be frustrating because we can see how well these players play in training.

“Off the park they are making a real go of it and they can defend, but when it comes to a matchday; whether it’s a concentration thing or it is nerves it doesn’t translate.”

Kerr lamented the on-going injury crisis at the League One strugglers - feeling that it has impacted on competition for place and results.

However he hopes to see both Jason Marr and Ross Perry back in contention this Saturday.

“We are sitting here with a young squad and a lot of the main bodies out,” Kerr added.

“Whether it’s through injuries and then the finances at the club we haven’t had depth.

“We have maybe 12 experienced players in the squad and a few of them are out their might be a feeling that you don’t have to fight for your place as much.

“Saying that; if you take the key players players out of any team they will struggle.

“If you take Moussa Dembele, Leigh Griffiths and Scott Brown out of Celtic’s team they will struggle.

“The good thing for us now is that the games are coming thick and fast.

“We need to be prepared for that challenge.”
