Urinating yob spat in policeman’s face

-

A man who spat on a police officer after being caught urinating on Coatbridge Main Street has been hit in the pocket.

Gartcosh yob Martin Chalmers, 30, lost his cool on May 28 last year during an episode which saw him label cops“a pair of f******”before resisting arrest.

During his appearance at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week, the procurator fiscal explained:“Police witnesses observed a man urinating up against a wall.

“As they approached him the accused said‘alright ya pair of f******?’

“He continued to urinate and as an officer approached closer he shouted, ‘f*** off daftie’.

“He began to wave back to his friends and then shouted at an officer, ‘get to f*** ya p****’.

“As police tried to take his arm, he pulled back and said,‘don’t be silly, I’ll stick the nut clean on you’.”

The fiscal continued:“He then began to display several warning signs such as furrowed brows and gritted teeth.

“As police took control he kicked their van and also spat on the face of an officer.”

Chalmers’defence solicitor admitted:“My client is absolutely ashamed and the report states that.

“It is noted he was, in fact, embarrassed having to outline the incident during the gathering of reports.

“He was under stress with his heating business at the time of the incident and that is the only explanation for his level of intoxication.

“He is at minimal risk of re-offending and has never acted like this before.”

Sheriff Petra Collins said:“I’m thinking about imposing a big fine here.

“But I want to make sure you understand this was not an acceptable way to conduct yourself.

“You will pay a penalty of £600 in total.

“£300 of that is for your threatening behaviour and the other £300 is for spitting in the face of a police officer.

“There is an enforcement order attached to this which means should you miss any payment instalments then you’ll appear back here.”
