Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser
Have say on new housing plans
Residents of more than 900 properties in 18 Monklands tower blocks are now being contacted about proposals to demolish the area’s high rises.
The Advertiser told last week how Cheviot, Merrick and Pentland Courts in Airdrie, Northburn place in the town, Coatbridge blocks Dunbeth Court, High Coats and Jackson Court and 11 blocks in Shawhead have been selected for the first phase of consultation on North Lanarkshire Council’s plan.
Housing convener Councillor Allan Graham said: “We’re taking forward our 20- year plan; these towers have been selected after analysing demand for the properties and turnover.
“The flats have higher turnover as some people moving in see them as temporary accommodation until they find a more suitable long- term home. We’re aiming to provide people with modern homes for the future.
Consultation will take various forms including l e t t e r s, face-to-face discussions, focus groups and open days. Improving the lives of tenants and regenerating communities and town centres are the drivers behind our long-term ambition.”
Householders in all 48 of North Lanarkshire’s tower blocks will be kept up to date with progress, and a council spokesman added: “We want to give our tenants as many opportunities as possible to provide us with their views.”
