Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser

Thanks for the help of Good Samaritan

-

Dear Editor,

I would like to thank the kind person who found my bank card in the car park of the Morrisons store in Airdrie on February 6 and later contacted my bank to let them know.

The Good Samaritan didn’t leave their contact details and I hope they read this letter as I really appreciate what they did for me.

They saved me a lot of worry, and having to retrace my steps to search everywhere I had been that day.

I’d like to thank them very much for their honesty and generosity.

Name and address supplied Bigger budget needed Dear Editor,

The SNP politicians who write in our paper are trying to tell us how good their budget was; their government needed the Greens to get it passed.

Also, they forget to tell us that the rich in Scotland have grown as the poor are going downhill rapidly since they came to power – free prescriptions that they could afford, the same with education as we now see less poor children getting into university.

As for the extra £10 million [for North Lanarkshire; Advertiser, February 7], this is a drop in the ocean for what is needed.

If this was a Tory government, they would be shouting from the rafters.

Jason Stark, via email Poppy centenary appeal Dear Editor,

We at Poppyscotland are committed to providing life-changing support to the armed forces community.

Many of your readers will be most familiar with us through the annual Scottish Poppy Appeal. The money raised allows us to provide tailored funding and assistance, and we also fund services in advice, employment, housing, mental health, mobility and respite.

This year, as we mark 100 years since the signing of the Armistice that heralded the beginning of the end of the First World War, we have launched The 1918 Poppy Pledge; a fundraising quest that is inspiring groups, schools, businesses, clubs and organisations around the country to take on the challenge of raising £1918 – or more.

The Poppy Pledge, which can take any fundraising form participants see fit, will be a lasting tribute to those who fell in the First World War. Importantly, it will also allow us to make a step change in the scale of support we are able to provide those in the armed forces community who rely on our support today.

Your brave troops and their families need you. Will you take The Pledge?
