Coldplay tribute show’s at the Village Theatre

- Jonathan Geddes

One of the top tribute acts to Coldplay are set to perform in East Kilbride.

Coldplace will play at the Village Theatre on Friday, March 2, performing hits like Fix You, In My Place and Paradise. The lads have been paying homage to Chris Martin and company for more than 13 years, playing over 700 gigs and being regarded as one of the best tribute acts in the world. Their adventures have led them to appear on Sky News, Radio One and Two and The Gadget Show, and to have played at festivals along with Bob Geldof, KT Tunstall, Ringo Starr and Roxette, among others.

Frontman Shane Crofts told the Ticket: “The idea of it appealed to me initially as it gave me the opportunity to play the songs I loved.

“Preparing for a tribute show can take years, and I don’t think you ever feel you are at the top of your game, and you’re always wanting to improve, whether it be the sound or look.”

That look means that Shane has had to copy Chris Martin’s style over the years - and his haircuts!

He said: “’We’ve had some haircuts to keep up with Chris Martin’s look.

“Admittedly some didn’t look as good on me as him!

“The time I grew my hair was not a good look for me, and the first time I wore tight trousers during their Viva la Vida era, I felt people would just burst out laughing as soon as I walked on stage. I actually got back in the van straight away after putting them on!”

The band has let the foursome travel the world, playing at various music festivals, and getting to enjoy a taste of the rock star lifestyle.

“We headlined the main stage at the Matthew Street Festival in Liverpool, where there was a crowd of 60,000 people.

“The atmosphere was just incredible and the police had to stop people coming into the main stage area.”

However they’ve also found themselves being mistaken for the real thing on a few occasions too.

Shane added: “We were mistaken for the real Coldplay in the Dominican Republic.

“We came offstage to around 100 people waiting for autographs and pictures. It wasn’t until the end of the night that we realised they thought we were the real deal!”

Tickets for the Coldplay show at the Village Theatre are priced at £20/£18 and can be bought from www.sllcboxoffice.co.uk, by calling 01355 248669 or from the venue on the night.
