at funding for that. One day, I would like to see a sports manager in here with that kind of ability.

“The interesting thing is that the articles of association for Cliftonhill had it set up not as a football club, but as a Sporting Club – very similar to Barcelona.

“So within these articles of association were the likes of tennis, croquet, bowling; all sorts were included. When the articles were set up it was known as Albion Rovers Sporting Football Club, so what we want to do is bring that back.”

The members held their first AGM last December and OSCR has their “It is a credit to him.” They also hold a fitness class every Wednesday at 2pm for people who are 65 or over, which the chief notes has been “very successful.”

The group run a ‘Buddies’ session for adults with various learning needs.

They help work on the stadium if it is a home game – but if it’s away they go out on various activities.

Rovers also run a sporting memories group to tackling dementia, depression and loneliness through the love of the game.

“Some of the guys have encyclopedic knowledge – and the guys with the memory issues can chip in,” Hagerty said. “The quality of what happens is pretty damn good.”

He hopes to see a boost in numbers for the projects: “There is a need to get far more involved. It’s a great opportunity.”
