Rovers’ next two weeks are crucial

- Mark Pirie

Albion Rovers boss Brian Kerr reckons the packed fixture list over the next two weeks will be a huge factor in the relegation run-in.

The Coatbridge outfit earned a dramatic point with an injury-time equaliser against league leaders Raith, however they slipped into the drop zone for the first time this season as Forfar enjoyed a comfortable win over Stranraer.

Despite an encouraging result against the tabletoppers, Rovers haven’t won in their last seven matches.

Kerr’s men have two games in hand in the relegation run-in, and play four times in the next fortnight – with East Fife and Arbroath coming up in the next week. That is followed by a crucial midweek clash with Queen’s Park before they face Ayr.

Kerr believes it is now crucial that they build on their point against the Kirkcaldy club.

He feels the battle at the bottom will be defined by the amount of points they can earn in the next two weeks.

“It’s massively important that we back up the Raith result,” he told the Advertiser.

“We have got a lot of games coming up. We’re not happy that we have dropped into the relegation zone, but with the games in hand the next couple of weeks could define our season.

“It’s important that we start to pick up points against the teams around us, with East Fife and Queen’s Park coming up.

“Now I think it’s important that we have to get points against the likes of Arbroath, Ayr and Raith. We can’t just write these games off.”
