Saddle up and head to Wishaw

-

The official opening of the new bike track in Wishawhill Wood is on Sunday, April 15, with the fun starting at 10am.

The day of cycling will start with skateboard coaching followed by bike coaching. There will also be demos galore.

Central Scotland Green Network Trust carried out the work on the “world class” track and members of bike clubs around the country are already converging on the Craigneuk track.

Wishaw Mountain Bike Club secretary Dan Scott said: “This track is like no other in the UK. The closest track in terms of quality is in Edinburgh and even it’s still not as good as the one we have here.”

Another great day out is Cambusnethan House, a neogothic masterpiece known as The Priory – one of the last great houses of the upper Clyde Valley to survive.

Back in March 2014, the Friends of Cambusnethan Priory was established, with the aim of saving the building and eventually restoring it as a multi-purpose visitor centre for the community.

The volunteers work tirelessly to keep the stunning mansion which was designed by James Gillespie Graham in 1820, in a restored state.

In the 70’s, it was a popular restaurant where mediaeval banquets were held. Now only the golden sandstone shell remains, although the gothic carvings remain visible.
