Daniel’s adding star power to Shift shows
Drama group finale
An Airdrie star of the stage and screen is giving a welcome boost to an innovative drama project.
Daniel Cahill, whose credits include appearances in TV’s River City and movies Blackout and Pulse, will join cast members of the Shift arts group for a series of performances at Coatbridge’s Summerlee Museum.
Written and directed by National Theatre of Scotland associate director Simon Sharkey, the culmination of Shift’s longterm project involving North Lanarkshire performers will be a “large-scale, multi- media theatrical event featuring original music and words from punters, poets, playwrights and pensmiths”.
The Summerlee shows will tell the stories of the many “shifts put in by the workers who built the world and created our future”.
Former St Margaret’s High pupil Daniel trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and his previous work with the National Theatre of Scotland includes James I and Truant.
A Shift spokesperson said: “Daniel was involved in the short film, Stabbed, made with pupils from St Margaret’s in conjunction with actor and director David Hayman’s Spirit Aid charity, which was screened at Glasgow Film Theatre.
“He has also returned to St Margaret’s as a professional actor to lead workshops and most recently appeared in zombie horror film Anna and the Apocalypse, which was filmed in Scotland.”
The Shift finale performances take place from March 29-to-April 1, at 7.45pm for 8pm, and tickets cost £ 10 for adults and £ 8/£ 5 for under 16s and Futureproof passport holders.
