-

Buchanan High youngsters showed off their accomplished researching skills during a trip to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway.

Third Year pupils visited the popular attraction to“further their knowledge of the life and times of Scotland’s national poet”.

Following a discussion with the museum’s education officer, whom they impressed with knowledge of the Bard through classroom work, the group took part in a number of activities.

They got to handle historical artefacts relating to home life during the Burns era, as well as sketches of objects housed in the museum.

A Buchanan High spokesperson added:“The pupils also got to enjoy a guided walk past the Auld Kirk, along the poet’s path, which ended at the cottage where Burns was born and spent some of his childhood. They engaged in all of the activities with great enthusiasm, demonstrating their desire to be successful learners.”

Further displaying their passion for all things Robert Burns, the school also hosted a hugely successful Burns supper event.

The youngsters were supported by talented pipers from campus neighbours St Ambrose High as they put on a spectacular spread for invited guests.

The school spokesperson said: “The Burns supper was a fantastic event consisting of poems, songs and traditional Scottish dance.

“It was rounded off with a cracking ceilidh that got everyone up and dancing; a great day.”
