Edwards on fire for Carsons at Swan

- Mark Pirie

The top three in the Airdrie and District Darts League all kept up their hopes of winning the title.

Carsons faced a tough trip to Chapelhall to tackle The Swan. The current champions hit the ground running as Harry Edwards struck a 15-darter with a 154 checkout, before sensationally adding a 21-dart win with a 180.

Jim McGeary had a brace of 21-darters, while Derek Cunningham notched a 19-darter and a 20-darter.

Cameron Menzies rattled in a 19 while Frank Quinn had a maximum and a 20-dart victory. The Swan didn’t play badly, but just couldn’t reach the standards set by the visitors.

Workmen’s B had a disappointing evening as they struggled against the lowly West End.

Despite holding a convincing 6-2 lead at the break, the Workies had some chances. In the end they failed to hit the double after leading in several matches.

Jim Wood, Gerry Brown and Scott Gibb all had 20- dart wins while Stevie Carson had a 180 in his 21dart victory.

The Workmen did take the first pairs game to secure victory despite a battling performance by The West End.

The Post made the trek to Caldercruix to play The Clansman, and nearly suffered a blow to their title bid.

Peter McKenzie hit a 180 and a 20-dart win and Kenny Campbell scored a 21-dart victory for The Post.

Despite taking the lead, defeat in the first pairs game meant The Post had to win all three remaining ties for victory.

The Clansman will be kicking themselves that they took nothing from the match in the end, but The Post showed a degree of professionalism to get over the line.

The Eagle were favourites as they visited the Boar’s Head.

However, Ross Walker kept up his good form for the home team with a 180 and a 19-dart win to put the pressure on.

It wasn’t enough to stop the visitors getting a result. Bill Brown hit a 14dart and 15-dart win with a 180.

Craig McKinnon hit a 15 with a 140 checkout and big Ally Kennedy hit a 20-dart win to see The Eagle fly over the finish line.

Wilson Arms continue to improve, but it was not enough to take anything from their guest’s this week The Barnyard.

In Coatbridge, at the Bank Social Club Kristoffer Ross got his team off to a good start against the Workmen’s A with a 180.

The Bankies were steadily pushed out of the game by a determined Workmen who secured their seventh win of the season.
