Gartcairn boss Davie Greig reckons his side didn’t even get out of second gear as they smashed seven goals past Lanark.

Liam McLauglin opened the scoring in the opening minutes with a looping shot, before Dylan McGuigan, Thomas Kilmartin and Gary Arbuckle all grabbed doubles as the MTC Park men ran riot.

Lanark’s Sean Taggart had briefly levelled the game at 1-1 but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

Gaffer Greig insists the Airdrie outfit can still raise their game as they battle it out for the Central District Division Two title.

“The boys were tremendous this weekend,” he told the Advertiser. “We are playing well and there is a real confidence that we can go and get results.

“To be fair it was a comfortable afternoon, we didn’t even really get out of second gear. I’m sure the boys could have raised their game another couple of levels.

“They are all big games now, so to be on a good run is so important.”

Having scored seven goals in their last two games, Cairn have kept pace with their promotion rivals despite playing two games less than top of the table St Anthony’s.

However, Greig says they won’t take anything for granted at this stage.

“Bellshill are just behind us and we still have to play them again,” he continued.

“We have picked up form again after a disappointing December.

“We are showing quality and confident and that is the most important thing.”

Gartcairn are set for a break from league duty this Saturday as they travel to Shotts Bon Accord in the Central League Cup.

Kick off 2pm at Hannah Park.
