Yob earns order praise from sheriff
A Townhead yob who behaving in a threatening manner on Coatbridge Main Street before lashing out at police officers has been praised for his engagement with his court order punishment.
Connor Peat’s aggression-fuelled day on April 29 last year began when he shouted, swore, gesticulated and uttered a threat to place others in the town centre in a“state of fear and alarm”.
He was then arrested but, within the rear of a police car travelling on Dunbeth Road, later resisted two male constables and lashed out at them with his arms and legs.
Peat, 22, owned up to both offences and was placed under two separate community payback orders that included unpaid work and supervision at Airdrie Sheriff Court.
During his last appearance in the dock, Peat, of Tantallon Drive, was warned about his engagement with his orders by Sheriff Derek O’Carroll and when Peat returned to court last week, his defence solicitor, Mark Lutton, revealed his client had taken“full recognition”of Sheriff O’Carroll’s words.
Mr Lutton added that Peat had exceeded the hours of unpaid work he had been required to complete by this stage and that Peat has “nothing else outstanding”.
Sheriff Derek O’Carroll praised Peat’s performance – but emphasised it must continue, telling him: “Finally, you’ve understood the position you are in and listened carefully on the last occasion.
“I can see a distinct improvement, and I’m pleased to see it.
“You must continue to attend all of your appointments. I am not going to fix a further review, but be assured that if you start slacking, there will be a report and it will land on my desk.
“Continue with your progress and let’s hope we won’t see you here again.”
