Crucial clash for the Cairn

-

Gartcairn boss Davie Greig believes it could be a huge Saturday for his side as they welcome league leaders St Anthony’s.

The McKenna Park outfit leapfrogged the Airdrie side into top spot having played two games more than Cairn.

This weekend the MTC Park men will have the chance to close the threepoint lead the Saints have at the top of Central Division District Two – and gaffer Greig (below) has told his players to put down a marker for the rest of the campaign.

“It’s a big game but in the position we are in they are all big games,”he told the Advertiser.

“There isn’t a huge gap between us and them and we have played two games less. So I think we are in a good position.

“It’s a big time for all the clubs at our level but we go into the game confident that we can get a result.

“It’s a chance for us to put down a marker for the rest of the run-in and I’m confident that the boys will put in a performance.”

Cairn were beaten by the‘Beast from the East’on Saturday as their Central League Cup clash with Shotts Bon Accord was called off.

Greig admits it was frustrating to not be able to get the game on as his side look to build momentum.

“When you are playing well you just want to be playing games,”he continued.

“We’re scoring goals and have been doing all the right things in the past few weeks. You can’t wait to get on the park when that happens. Hopefully the game on Saturday will go ahead.”
