Pairman helps flying Eagle halt The Post

And champs Carsons bounce back

- Mark Pirie

The Post saw their title hopes derailed as The Eagle produced a stunning performance in Calderbank.

Dougie Pairman was in top form for the visitors with a 180 while Martin Moulds was on the button with 17dart and 19-dart wins.

Tommy Rodman, who has been off the boil in recent weeks, helped his mates with a 20 while Peter McKenzie hit a 180 along with Kenny Campbell.

Despite this, on the night they got nothing from the game because the home side were just that bit sharper on the doubles – taking their opportunity when it came their way.

Alan Campbell was another with a 180 in the match for The Eagle – which was matched by Bill Brown who had a 21-dart win.

Also getting a 21- dart victory was Gerry McKiernan and Craig McKinnon.

The Eagle took their chances and the points and The Post must now hope to repeat their victory over Carsons in their upcoming clash to have any chance of the title.

The champions kept up with the pace in a workmanlike win over the Boar’s Head on Whifflet Street.

Ross Walker continued his good form for the visitors with a 180 and the rest of his team did themselves proud as they took a third of the matches.

In the end, the fire power of the table-toppers was just too good.

Graham Anderson started their run to the win with a 15-dart score followed in by Ernie Brown who hit an 18.

Phil McBride struck a 10- dart win which was matched by Derek Cunningham to seal the points.

A weakened Workmen’s B side were six ahead against Wilson Arms, but the strugglers showed some grit by taking the last two singles matches.

Sheamus Wilson and Davie Kerr hit 180 before they put up a battle in all the pairs matches - but the gulf in class proved to be too much.

The West End had been playing well and a 19-dart win from Gerry Houston set them on their way to a win against the Workmen’s A.

In the Bank Social Club, The Swan were favourites and earned the points despite a shaky start.

Robert McLelland had a 16-dart win and team mate Andy Fagan hit a 20.

It wasn’t enough as Jim Parker threw a 14 for The Swan and teammate Davie Raeside complimented that with a 17-dart win.

In the other match, The Clansman took both points in their trip to The Barnyard. The away side enjoyed a comfortable win.
