Taking the plunge to support opera group

Duo’s bungee jump

- Ian Bunting

A brave pair of actors are ready to take on a vertigoinducing challenge to boost the coffers of their drama group.

Monklands Light Opera (MLO) duo Carrie Orr and Jamie Wilson will plunge 160 feet from Glasgow’s Riverside Museum on May 12 in aid of the organisation.

They have set a £ 600 target but, thanks to the generosity of members of the community, have already raised nearly a third of that amount.

Carrie, who has performed with MLO for eight years and is now dance coach for the MLO Youth group, and crew member Jamie are “very excited” ahead of their extreme descent.

The pair said: “Monklands Light Opera has been performing for the residents of Lanarkshire for many years and most recently opened its doors to children under the age of 16.

“It is a hugely successful group who strive to provide the best possible shows for their audience, but the cost of putting on an amateur production is extensive – and increasing every year.

“We have decided to take on this extreme challenge to raise funds for both MLO and MLO Youth to assist funding for their future projects.

“We knew that if we wanted to raise a big amount, we had to go big.

“We are hopeful that people will support our club and would like to thank everyone in advance for any donation and messages of support they are able to give.

“This backing will help the groups to continue performing for many years to come.”
