A team of devoted NHS Lanarkshire staff were rewarded for their hard labour at a plush prizegiving ceremony.

Midwives and maternity support workers scooped the Midwifery Service of the Year award at the Royal College of Midwives Annual Midwifery Awards 2018.

They collected their prestigious gong in London from Good Morning Britain’s news anchor Charlotte Hawkins.

A thrilled Neena Mahal, chair of NHS Lanarkshire, said: “Huge congratulations go out to our maternity services staff.

“This is a tremendous accolade for our staff, recognising their commitment to multi-disciplinary team working and how this impacts positively on the outcomes for women, newborns and their families.

“This award also shows how much innovation is going on in our maternity services and the great effort by our hard-working midwives, maternity support workers and the wider maternity team to provide the safest and best possible person- centred care.”

The Kellogg’s All- Bran Award for Midwifery Service of the Year recognises “excellence in significant improvements and innovation in the provision of maternity care”.

In this category, the judges consider maternity services that show “a real commitment to improving team work within multidisciplinary teams”.

Gill Walton, chief executive and general secretary at Royal College Midwives, said: “I wish to congratulate each and every member of the midwifery team at NHS Lanarkshire for all the great work they’ve done to improve the care that they deliver.

“NHS Lanarkshire is an excellent example of a service that has been consistently seeking to improve the maternity service it delivers and they have an engaged, enthusiastic and empowered team of midwives supporting, and wider multidisciplinary team implementing, those improvements which are resulting in high quality care for women and their babies.”
