Manager’s warning as Cairn hit the top

- Mark Pirie

Gartcairn boss Davie Greig has warned his players to expect more twists in the promotion race – despite a win in their top of the table clash with St Anthony’s.

Greig was impressed with the Airdrie Junior outfit at a rain-soaked MTC Park as they moved into pole position in the Central District Second Division table with a 3-2 win.

Despite the result, he believes there could me more ups and downs this season.

He said: “There are still four of five teams who you would think will be involved in the promotion fight.

“We have to concentrate on ourselves and keep winning these types of games.

“The goal is promotion. We want to chase that down and if a title came after that it would be a bonus.”

He admitted he has concerns about a growing injury-list at the club, stating that the squad is “thin” going into Saturday’s clash with Newmains. He added: “Newmains will pose us a few problems so we’ll need to be at it to get closer to our goal.”
