Dear Editor,

While the ‘Beast from the East ’weather was the worst I’ve seen in years, it didn’t dampen community spirit.

When the heavy snow fell on the Wednesday and Thursday the path leading to my house, as well as my car, was completely covered.

While I was quite happy staying indoors with such awful weather outside, my wife needed to get into the town centre to try and collect a prescription from the pharmacy.

I happened to mention this to my neighbours and they told me they would do all they could to clear my path and car of snow.

When the weather let up a little on the Friday, they were out first thing in the morning with shovels digging up all of the snow and moving it into their gardens.

It only took them just over an hour and, thanks to their remarkable kindness and hard work, my wife and I were able to get in the car and drive into town.

Our luck continued when we got to the pharmacy and her prescription was available to collect.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my neighbours from the bottom of my heart for their generosity.

We have lived next door to each other for a long time, and gotten on really well, but things like this show how above and beyond some people are prepared to go.

I am looking to do something to repay them but, for now, was anxious to recognise their gesture in the Advertiser.

I sought permission to use their names, which was granted, so I am delighted to be able to say, thank you James and Helen McPherson.

You are both wonderful neighbours and human beings.
