Weigh To Go Couple share a big weight loss

Meg and Jim shed 10 stones between them

An Airdrie couple who embarked on an epic weightloss journey together have turned their family’s lives around.

Super slimmers Meg Currie and her husband, Jim, have shed an astonishing 10 stones between them since joining the Slimming World class at Moy Hall, less than a year ago.

Mum-of-two Meg, 47, picked up the slimming bug last June, with Jim joining a month later.

Self-confessed “orange Lucozade” addict Meg has slimmed down from a size 22 to a 10, losing six stone since last summer.

And Jim, 48, who runs a greengrocer’s shop in Wishaw, has shed more than four stones.

Meg told the Advertiser: “My daughter Megan encouraged me to join andthe hardest bit was walking through the door.

“It was the fear of the unknown but the people in the group are fab. Now it’s like a social event for all of us.”

The couple have been inspired by their consultant Lynn Johnston, who herself lost 13st in two years.

Meg continued: “I didn’t know about Lynn’s story; she doesn’t like to talk about it every week. I was in tears because Lynn was heavier than I was when I started.

“And I said to myself, ‘come on Meg pull your finger out’.

“But I can relate to a lot of things Lynn discusses, including having trouble bending down and painting your nails. Even doing housework caused me to be out of breath.”

She continued: “Lynn is amazing. When I was struggling to keep at my target weight she was there for me. She makes you feel so at ease and welcome and is very supportive.

“And the other members in the club were a huge help, too.”

Meg has never been to an exercise class and attributes her new look to walking her two miniature Pomeranians, Maisie and Bambi.

She said: “I wasn’t confident enough because I was a size 22. I like to walk but I had a lot of problems with my knees and hips. Now I walk every day.

“But I need to be very strict with myself; it’s all or nothing. I don’t touch anything that would make me crumble, I just avoid it.”

And the whole family have benefited from a new healthy eating regime and Jim’s culinary creations.

Meg explained: “We used to lift the phone and order a takeaway or something from the chip shop but we don’t do that now, all our meals are Slimming World friendly.

“It has been good for all of us, especially my son Jamie, who has cerebral palsy. He loves Jim’s cooking.

“And Jim has done remarkably well too. His transformation has been amazing; I’m so proud of him.

“I haven’t been this weight for 23 years. I just wish I had done it years ago.”

S l i m m i n g Wo r l d consultant Lynn added: “Megan and Jim are absolutely fantastic. They have been to the class every week.

“We hold a competition for couple of the year and I’m pretty sure they will be in the running to win it this year.”
