Tight at the top for B boys and Carsons

Workmen’s B launch challenge

- Staff Reporter

The Airdrie and District Darts League title run-in looks set to go down to the wire after Workmen’s B put the pressure on current champions Carsons.

The Workmen’s B will go headto-head with the league leaders to decide the title in two weeks time as they sit just a point off top spot - but first of all they had to dispose of The Eagle to continue their own hopes.

Workies Gerry Brown got the home side off to a great start with a 18-dart win, but The Eagle soon levelled with Bill Brown keeping up his good from with a brace of 21-darters.

The game was close, but Cammy Reynolds gave the title-hopefuls the advantage at the break with an 18dart win.

Reynolds continues to play well, but the jitters soon kicked in and The Eagle were only trailing 6-5 going into the final double and The Workies knew a win was essential.

Jim Wood and Tam Ferguson were behind, but they soon atoned and crashed the double 16 at the first attempt.

Carsons went through the motions to beat local rivals The Barnyard - which puts them on course to retain their crown.

That means that the last game against will be a winner takes all clash.

Away from the top two, Jim Parker led The Swan to victory this time at home to the Boar’s Head.

Parker struck 16-dart and 17-dart wins, and the bad news kept coming for the visitors - as they slipped to joint bottom as Wilson Arms secured a point.

The Workmen’s A couldn’t overcome the battling Wilsons - who move level points with the Boar at the foot of the table.

It now means that the battle for the wooden spoon will go to the final week, thanks to Pat Lafferty who was on the mark for Wilsons with a 114-checkout and an 18-dart win.

Chris Gordon also had a 180, while Charlie Morrisey had a 16-dart win for the A team.

The Post, who are now guaranteed third spot, took care of business at the Bank Social Club.

Dougie Pairman enjoyed a 19-darter with a 180 and maximums were also hit by Tommy Rodman and Martin Moulds.

Kris Ross struck a 21-dart win for The Bankies.

The West End, who have been playing well, knew they needed to top their recent performance to take something from The Clansman.

Despite Billy Hendrie hitting a 19dart win they were never at the races. RESULTS for Monday, March 19: Carsons 10 The Barnyard 2, Workmen’s B 7 The Eagle 5, Bank Social Club 3 The Post 9, The West End 1 The Clansman 11, The Swan 9 Boar’s Head 3, Workmen’s A 6 Wilson Arms 6.
