Making a difference

- Lorraine Howard

More and more women are seeing self-employment as an attractive career option and are choosing to set up their own business.

Accessing support which is tailored to your needs, speaking to other businesswomen at different stages of the entrepreneurial journey, learning from role models and working with a mentor can help you develop your business idea and identify strategies for future growth.

Women into Business events are run by some local Business Gateway offices.

They give you the opportunity to exchange ideas with other local businesswomen and improve your business skills.

In Scotland, the Association of Business Women has been the voice of businesswomen since it was founded in 1995.

Its aim is to link, inspire and support its members.

In 2012, the ASB introduced individual direct membership to all business and professional women throughout Scotland.

The association aims to encourage personal and professional development for business owners and women who work across all sectors and levels of experience and responsibility.

They achieve this by promoting business opportunities by way of sharing news, showcasing businesses, exchanging views, networking and recognising achievement.
