On-song duo impress at Rotary music event
District final success
A pair of musical marvels from Monklands delivered sensational sounds at a prestigious competition.
Hope Sim and Cara McGlone represented the Coatbridge, Airdrie and Monklands Rotary Club at the rotary organisation’s Young Musician’s District 1020 Final held in Edinburgh’s HeriotWatt University.
Singer Cara’s fantastic vocals could be heard throughout the venue, while Hope served up a sensational saxophone solo.
Both youngsters impressed the judges and an enraptured audience, but fell just short on a place in the next stage of the contest; the regional finals.
A Coatbridge, Airdrie and Monklands Rotary Club spokesperson told the Advertiser: “Although Hope and Cara didn’t place, they both did extremely well and were a credit to themselves, their families and the club.
“The standard on show in the competition was amazing and it is a platform for youngsters like Hope and Cara.
“We are sure they will both become hugely successful musicians as their talents know no end.
“Congratulations to Cara and Hope on reaching the District 1020 final.”
The Coatbridge, Airdrie and Monklands Rotary Club are also looking to recruit new members, with the organisation offering people the chance to “connect with other men and women who share their drive to give back”.
The spokesperson added: “You will have the opportunity to discuss your community’s needs and develop creative ways to meet them, connect with other leaders who are changing the world, expand your skills and meet new friends.”
Meetings take place every Monday (except bank holidays) from 6.30pm to 8pm at The Tudor Hotel in Airdrie.
