Fundraising star Carol boosts Beatson coffers
Bumper donation in memory of beloved sister-in-law
Ta l e n t e d A i r d r i e fundraiser Carol Wallace has been using her crafting talents to raise funds for a special charity close to her heart.
She has collected more than £1200 for Beatson Cancer Charity over the past year, in memory of her sister- in- law Alison, who sadly passed away in January 2017 after a second battle with cancer.
Creative Carol raised the money by selling handmade Scottie dog brooches and hand- sewn Christmas and Valentine’s decorations at a stall in Coatbridge library.
She also took part in the charity’s “Off the Beatson Track” sponsored walk and is organising a fundraising raffle.
Beatson cancer charity supported the family through Alison’s illness, and Carol said: “Fundraising gave me something to be a part of, and it helps me keep Alison’s memory alive. Alison used the Wellbeing Centre when she was having her treatment, and she and the family all felt very supported and cared for by staff.
“Th e re a re n ’ t m a n y organisations like Beatson cancer charity that does so much for patients and their families.
“I wouldn’t have had the support I needed if it didn’t exist.
“I’m proud of what I’m doing, and I’m sure Alison is looking down and is proud too.”
Carol added: “The library has been very supportive of what I’m doing, and fundraising has helped me get back on my feet again and given me confidence.
“I like meeting other people, and a lot of them are supportive of Beatson cancer charity for the same reason I am. I really do feel a part of the team.”
Carol recently joined Beatson charity staff and volunteers to celebrate her achievement in raising £ 1231.13 for the good cause. Community fundraising manager Maisie Hamilton said: “Our charity couldn’t do what it does without people like Carol – the dedication and hard work of our fundraisers is incredible, and we’re so grateful they’re part of Team Beatson.”
