Greengairs

Fundraisin­g dance arranged by the Cancer Research committee will be held on Saturday, April 28. It takes place in the welfare hall from 7.30pm until midnight, and tickets costing £5 are available on the door. Music will be provided by four-piece band The Lovelies, and all are welcome.

Councillor’s surgery Airdrie North representa­tive Sophia Coyle’s next surgery takes place in the community hall tonight from 6pm to 6.30pm.

Event success The Teddy Bears’ Picnic last Sunday was a great success, with more than 40 kids involved.

Miners’ home Applicatio­ns to the miners’ holiday home in Couris, Fife, open to miners, their beneficiar­ies and families, are now available. Social club Activities this week include bingo on Sunday night, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. Back Brae Gospel Hall The breaking of the bread takes place on Sunday at 11am. Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm. Stanrigg miners’ memorial is open to all who wish to visit. July 9 will mark the 100th anniversar­y of the disaster in which 19 miners lost their lives; the retired miners’ committee is arranging a remembranc­e service on Sunday, July 8, and anyone interested in helping with the commemorat­ion can call 01236 830637. Transport to the memorial can also be arranged by calling the same number.

Drop-in cafe takes place at Greengairs Parish Church on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 1pm to 3.30pm. This is open to all villagers who would enjoy tea and coffee with home baking. Townhead

Music club People can learn to play a musical instrument, including guitar and fiddle, at St Bartholome­w’s Church hall on Fridays from 8pm to 9.30pm. Lessons are followed by a folk music session until midnight, with a bar also available.

Craft group meets at Townhead Parish Church on Mondays from 9.30am to 12pm. All are welcome.

Four Isles events A boxing club, for those aged eight and over, runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6pm to 8pm at the community centre. Youth groups The One Way Club, for children in Primary Four to Seven, and Rock Solid group, for secondary school pupils, take place on Tuesday evenings in the church hall and are led by youth worker Jenny. After 9’Ers activity group meets on Fridays from 1pm to 3pm in the community centre. Activities at the community group include arts and crafts, fitness and cooking. Clarkston
