Carsons power show claims league title

Workies overwhelmed in showdown

-

Carsons claimed the Airdrie and District Darts League Title in style as they destroyed their closest challengers the Workmen’s B.

The B Team hosted the league leaders knowing that they needed a win on the final day - while Carsons could settle for a point.

Graham Anderson got the visitors off to a great start, winning 2- 0 including a 17-dart victory.

Ernie Brown made it 2-0 in a great match up against the league singles champ Stevie Carson.

Carson took the first in 17-darts, but missed darts allowing Brown to take the game to a decider.

Brown upped the ante winning in 17-darts.

Gary Stone finally got the Workies on the score sheet, winning in 19-darts and 20-darts including an exhibition 82 finish and double 16.

Carsons went on to extend their lead again, this time through youngster Scott Bailey.

He hit 16-dart and 20-dart wins including a 180 to make it 3-1 and Carsons now only needed three chalks from the remaining eight games to retain the title.

David Cunningham reduced the gap with a terrific game against Aaron Edwards. Both hit 180 scores in the opening leg which Edwards won in 18-darts.

Cunningham had to dig deep to win a scrappy second leg and the third in 20-darts. But from then it was all one-way traffic and the Workmen’s B had little to offer.

Cameron Menzies was too strong for Tam Ferguson, as he earned 17dart and 21-dart wins.

Cammy Reynolds lost with a degree of pride against Frank Quinn, who made it 5-2. Quinn took the first in 20-darts but Reynolds fought back to win in 18 with a 105 escape.

Quinn took the last leg in 18-darts with Reynolds on a finish.

A draw and the championship was secured when Derek Cunningham won the last singles match in 21-darts and 19-darts which included a 180.

With the title beyond them the Workies had no fight left and the visitors took the match easily in the end to lift the championship.

In the other games, the Bank Social Club came away from The Barnyard with both points thanks to a 19-dart win for Scott Hamilton.

As expected The Eagle were far too strong for The West End and The Swan had a shock victory in Calderbank against The Post.

The Clansman held on to victory against Wilson Arms who will share the wooden spoon with the Boar’s Head who were beaten at The Workmen’s Club against the A squad.

George McGuinnes was on his game with a 17- darter while Jim Walker was top man for the Boars with a 180 in a 19-dart win.
