Raith break hearts

Raith Rovers ......... 2 Albion Rovers ....... 0

Albion Rovers suffered late heartbreak in Kirkcaldy with a last-ditch, two-goal show by Raith - but Brian Kerr remains confident they can get the points to seal their League One spot next season.

It was another body blow for the Cliftonhill outfit and their hope of survival as strikes from Bobby Barr and Dario Zanatta in the final five minutes made the visitors rue missed chances.

With a huge tie at the bottom of the table against Forfar this Saturday, Kerr knows it is now or never if they want to avoid the relegation spots.

He told the Advertiser: “It’s a game that will dictate if we still have a chance to finish third-bottom.

“We’ve played well in recent weeks and were unbelievable against Raith. It’s frustrating but we showed we have enough about us to get out of this situation.

“We’re still confident of doing it.”

● Rovers also suffered late heartbreak against Arbroath last week in the 2-1 defeat.

Ryan Wallace wiped out Sean Higgins’ opener for the Coatbridge side. Colin Hamilton rose highest in the box to hand visitors the three points.

There was a major talking point on the hour mark when a top scorer Alan Trouten went down in the box under a challenge from Gavin Swankie.

After the game gaffer Brian Kerr said: “How does the referee not give a penalty when Alan is clean through in the box? I just can’t accept that.”
