Green-fingered Monklands Rotarians were barking up the right tree as they took part in an ecofriendly global campaign.

Rotarians around the world have been asked to do their bit to help “transform ailing forests and beautiful green spaces”by the time this year’s Earth Day comes around on April 22. This is being achieved by planting trees at various locations, with the Rotary Club of Coatbridge, Airdrie and Monklands members positioning 30 trees in a forest near Glenboig.

A spokesperson for the local club revealed:“We are determined to do all we can with the Earth Day campaign and believe planting these trees will help transform the area.

“It was hard work, but well worth it and we cannot wait to see the end product when the trees start growing.”

NHS Lanarkshire has launched a new healthcare guide in health centres and hospitals across the region.

The “Meet Your Healthcare Experts” document details the range of services that healthcare professionals, such as pharmacists, physiotherapists, opticians and GPs, can provide.

It also supplies information that allows people to go directly to the right healthcare professional for the help they need without having to see their GP first.

Dr Iain Wallace, medical director for the health board, said: “We’ve based the information in this booklet on some of the common types of illness and injury that we see in our A& E departments and our GP surgeries that can be treated elsewhere.

“By following the advice in this guide, patients can go to the right healthcare professional first time and, by doing so, avoid waiting for a GP appointment or being seen in A&E.

“It a l s o p rov i d e s information and advice on self-care, which is often the quickest and easiest route to feeling better when you’re ill, as well as important details on how to access national services like NHS Inform and NHS24.”

Dr Wallace added: “The guide is part of our wider ‘Meet the Experts’ campaign which aims to raise awareness of the range and level of healthcare expertise available to communities across Lanarkshire.”
