however, Tom Clarke and John Smith were only paying a visit to divisional headquarters in Coatbridge.
Monklands West MP Mr Clarke and MP for Monklands East Mr Smith were treated to a tour of the facility by Chief Superintendent hugh hamill.
The political heavyweights are featured in this image from the January 20, 1984, Advertiser.
Mr hamill said:“Mr Clarke and Mr Smith were both hugely impressed by the high standards on display.
“They were also very keen to meet with our dedicated and hard-working team of staff.”
