Ross Owen is also getting behind the Advertiser’s all-star charity football match in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice.

The radio presenter has recruited some big names to star alongside football legends Graeme Souness, Neil Lennon and Ally McCoist on June 2.

Still Game duo Scott Reid – who plays Methadone Mick – and Matt Costello, who made his name as“Stevie the bookie”will be taking to the field alongside Rab Buchanan, who played Andy in cult flick Gregory’s Girl.

Band of Brothers actor Robin Laing and Outlander star Scott Kyle will also take to the Excelsior pitch.

Scots Colin McCreadie (Taggart), Kevin Guthrie (Sunshine on Leith) and River City trio Stephen McCole, Stephen Purdon and Jordan Young will also line up.

Ross has been delighted with the response so far:“It’s been great. It’s a big thing for the area and I’m sure there will be a huge turnout. I’d encourage everyone to come out and back such a great cause!”

The celebrity interviewer is confident of adding some more big names to the squad before kick-off.

Ross added:“I’m talking to people about it all the time and have put some requests out on social media. My motto is,‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get!’”

Tickets are available from Excelsior Stadium and cost £10 for adults and £5 for under-16s and concessions. See page 31 for more details.
