Kitchen table day for Maggie’s
Supporters of M aggie’ s Lanarkshire turned out to raise funds for the cancer caring charity at its annual kitchen table day.
Dozens enjoyed hot rolls, healthy breakfasts and cake at last week’s busy event at the centre, located in the grounds of University Hospital Monklands.
They were also treated to a tombola, cake challenge and fundraising stalls – and were encouraged to host their own kitchen table day at home or work to support Maggie’s.
As well as the centre’s own event, which raised £325 and will benefit from match funding, a further 19 are scheduled to take place across Lanarkshire, including one at the hospital on the same day.
Lanarkshire centre fundraising manager Marion Pirrie said: “It was a great event, all about raising awareness of what we do and encouraging people to host their own similar event.
“It was fantastic to see how busy the centre was. People who wouldn’t normally visit on that day came along especially and staff from the hospital came over to have breakfast and go back to their departments.
“We want everyone to see that the centre is there to be used and kitchen table day brings that alive as it’s the heart of the centre.”
Centre staff also hosted an information day for new volunteers, with 20 interested supporters attending to learn more about supporting the work of Maggie’s through fundraising, speaking and welcoming centre visitors.
