Miners’ home Applicatio­ns to the miners’ holiday home in Culross, Fife, open to miners, their beneficiar­ies and families, are now available. The home is open from June until August; call 01383 880307 to register an interest.

Children’s committee outing The committee’s summer outing this year will be a trip to Ayr on Saturday, June 9, and it is open to all children in the village aged two-to-16. The bus leaves from the social club at 9.30am, picking up at Airdrie Sheriff Court at 9.45am and then travelling on to Ayr, where it will depart at 6pm. Parents are asked to have their children at the pick-up places on time and return any applicatio­n forms to the committee as soon as possible.

Councillor­s’ surgeries Councillor Sophia Coyle will hold her latest surgeries tonight and on Wednesday, May 23, from 6pm to 6.30pm. Councillor Tommy Morgan’s consultati­ons take place this Saturday and Saturday, May 26, at midday, with Councillor David Cullen’s next surgery being held on Tuesday, May 14, from 7pm to 7.30pm. All three councillor­s’ surgeries run in the community hall.

Bingo night will take place in the Orange hall on Sundays, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker will be drawn at 8.25pm. Tickets are on sale from committee members at a cost of £1 each. Anyone who wishes to support the Lucky Joker draw can contact the committee.

Back Brae Gospel Hall The breaking of the bread takes place on Sunday at 11am. Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Stanrigg miners’ memorial is open to all who wish to visit. July 9 will mark the 100th anniversar­y of the disaster in which 19 miners lost their lives; the retired miners’ committee is arranging a remembranc­e service on Sunday, July 8, at 2pm and anyone interested in helping with the commemorat­ion can call 01236 830637. Ladies from Greengairs and Plains have already agreed to help with arrangemen­ts on the day. Transport to the memorial can also be arranged by calling the same number.

Drop-in cafe takes place at Greengairs Parish Church on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 1pm to 3.30pm. This is open to all villagers who would enjoy tea and coffee with home baking.

Baillies Lane marching band Practice takes place on Tuesdays from 7pm to 9pm in the social club. New flute and drum learners are welcome to attend; call John on 07525 064303 for further details.

Da Capo music group meets on Mondays from 6pm to 9pm in the Orange hall on Baillies Lane. Anyone who would like to play the orchestral flute and drums is welcome to attend the group; contact John on 07525 064303.
