Showcase to show-off Ryan’s studio work

- Andrew Bargh

Talented Coatbridge singer Ryan Lawrie is preparing to unleash months of hard work at a special Glasgow showcase this weekend.

The former X-Factor contestant has been putting in hours of hard graft alongside established songwriters at recording studios in London. Now Ryan is ready to perform a variety of songs which he hopes will interest record labels – allowing him to sell his music to artists appearing in the UK chart. Speaking ahead of his appearance at Glasgow’s Classic Grand this Friday, Ryan told the Ticket: “I’ve been rehearsing with the band really well and it’s all coming together nicely.

“I’m hoping people who have heard of me will be able to see a different side of my ability.

“There’s a wide selection of songs I’ve been working on and they range from reggae, country, pop and indie rock.

“I’ve really enjoyed working on finding my sound and this is me pitching my work to hopefully some big names.”

More than 200 fans are expected to be in attendance for Ryan’s showcase, which will also see Glasgow’s Gregor Coleman appear on the bill.

It will be Ryan’s first performance of importance in several months, and the Lanarkshire lad admitted it will be a strange feeling to perform exclusively original material.

He continued: “It will be a weird feeling performing these songs as at gigs in the past I’ve mainly performed covers.

“This is a risk, but it will be different and I hope everyone sees a growth in me from X-Factor.

“I’ve been focusing on what I want to achieve and the main goal is that people are impressed with my songs and leave the venue excited with what they’ve heard.”

After this weekend’s gig, Ryan says he’ll be heading straight back into the writing room to churn out more potential hits.

He furthered: “Rehearsing has felt like a bit of a holiday last week as that’s been my focus.

“This has been a learning curve for me and I’ve got a full hour on stage performing new songs.

“But after the gig I’ll be right back to working hard in the studio.

“The main thing is that I’m enjoying what I’m doing and I can’t wait to write even more after performing.”

Doors to Ryan’s gig open at 6.30pm at Glasgow’s Classic Grand on Friday.
