Hospital pervert jailed for lewd behaviour

-

A pervert has been jailed for six months after admitting a sex offence against a woman in University Hospital Monklands.

Niladri Paul, who was already on the sex offenders’ register, will spend time behind bars for placing his victim in a state of fear and alarm on March 15.

While in the accident and emergency department Paul attempted to touch the woman’s body before placing his hands within his own clothing and touching his penis while looking and gesticulating towards her.

As well as being jailed, Paul’s stay on the sex offenders’ register has been extended to seven years.

His solicitor argued: “By pleading guilty he has prevented this from going to a trial which would have disrupted hospital proceedings due to staff members being called to witness.

“He’s already on the sex offenders’ register and was remanded on March 16. “That was 54 days ago. “My submission is that this period of remand is significant enough.”

The gallery gasped as Sheriff Frank Pieri ruled: “The report I have does not hold out much hope should I give you a community disposal.

“I can only deal with this by way of custodial sentence.

“If you didn’t plead guilty this sentence would have been seven months.

“As it is I’ll make it six, backdated to the date of remand on March 16.

“You’ll also spend the next seven years on the sex offenders’ register .”
