AWAY DAYS FOR PUPILS OF ST ANDREW’S HIGH...
Trips to Manchester and Holyrood
St Andrew’s High pupils mixed football with politics as they enjoyed two very different, equally memorable, excellent excursions.
The beautiful game was on the minds of youngsters from the Coatbridge school as they travelled to Manchester to sample some of the iconic sights and sounds of the city’s famous football clubs.
They first enjoyed a tour of Manchester United’s hallowed Old Trafford stadium, where the excited footie fans got to sit in manager Jose Mourinho’s seat in the home dugout and pick a spot in the dressing room to hang their shirts up alongside the likes of big-money stars Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez.
From there it was off to the blue half of Manchester to take in new Premier League champions Manchester City’s clash with Huddersfield at the Etihad Stadium.
Although the game finished in a 0- 0 draw, the pupils got to see City boss Pep Guardiola and his record- breaking players lift the championship trophy after the game.
A St Andrew’s High spokesperson said: “The trip to Manchester was arranged by PE5 Sports Tours and we’d like to thank them for their support.
“Our pupils had a wonderful time at both stadiums and it was impressive to see two of the biggest clubs in the world up close.”
Meanwhile, third-year National 4/5 pupils got to wander the corridors of power at Holyrood with a day out at the Scottish Parliament.
Wide- eyed students were led around the historic location by Airdrie & Shotts MSYP Christopher Costello who provided “valuable information relating to his role and inspired the students to get involved in politics”.
Keeping it local, the pupils also got to quiz Coatbridge MSP Fulton MacGregor and his predecessor Elaine Smith, as well as Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard.
