Double benefit from trolley dash

Goodies for Sandra and foodbank

- Jean Ward

An Aldi shopper scooped a haul of goodies for herself and local families in need during a supermarket sweep.

Sandra Crilly made a successful dash around the firm’s Airdrie store, snapping up an amazing £429 worth of treats for the town’s foodbank and picking up the equivalent value of products for herself in the process.

Coatbridge resident Sandra was chosen as the winner of an instore competition to take part in the fiveminute trolley dash for charity.

And as well as taking home a trolley full of treats, Aldi matched the value of her huge haul and donated the total to her nominated good cause.

Sandra said: “I had a great time. I can’t believe I managed to collect loads of my favourite Aldi goodies in such a short space of time.

“I’m really happy that Aldi are also going to donate the same value to the Airdrie Foodbank and help lots of other families in the area too.

“Thanks to Aldi and its amazing staff for making it such a fun experience.”

David Findlay, Airdrie Foodbank manager, said: “This is a very generous and much-needed donation to our funds.

“We are grateful to Aldi for arranging the event, which was also designed to help the local communities and good causes. We also want to say thanks to Sandra Crilly, who nominated the Airdrie Foodbank as her chosen charity.”

Graham Nicolson, group buying director, Aldi Scotland, added: “We created the supermarket sweep as a fun way for our shoppers to help support their local community and get shopping for themselves at the same time.

“After being chosen as our local winner, Sandra has scooped loads of treats for herself and helped raise a huge amount for her local community foodbank.”
