Pupils take a look to the future

St Patrick’s Primary pupils and nursery kids’ Developing the Young Workforce topic culminated with a special careers day recently.

The Advertiser was among guests who visited the school and informed the children about local journalism.

Workers from a variety of other profession­s also spoke to the youngsters, including speech therapy, fitness instructio­n, the police and social work.

Gemma McBride, depute head teacher, said: “Over two weeks, children participat­ed in a series of active workshops and lessons to help them prepare for the world of work and making good use of digital technologi­es.

“All learners were provided with opportunit­ies and valuable experience­s to develop their skills for learning and skills for life.

“The school were delighted to work in partnershi­p with the wider community to create a successful showcase jobs fayre.”

Primary Five pupil Aiden Robertson told the Advertiser: “I really enjoyed the two- week topic and learning about what people do.

“I enjoyed finding out about the Advertiser journalist’s job.”

Leo McGowan in Primary Seven said: “It was a really interestin­g topic and I felt inspired after the job showcase.”

Sophie Mia O’Hagan, from Primary Four, said: “It was a fun event and I really enjoyed talking to people about their jobs.

“I loved the armed forces presentati­on.”
