Big clothes throw is double booster
Slimmers in Coatbridge are celebrating losing weight by donating their now too-big clothes to charity.
As part of a national campaign, members of the town’s Slimming World groups are being invited to donate clothes, shoes, bags and accessories they no longer need to local shops via a bag collection at their Slimming World groups.
The kind-hearted dieters are so confident they will never need their over-sized clothes again, they hope to fill “loads of bags”, which each worth around £25 to Cancer Research UK.
The big Slimming World clothes throw is taking place in all 18,000 Slimming World groups across the UK and Ireland until this Saturday.
Last year’s campaign raised £3.3 million but as well as fundraising, Slimming World also aims to raise awareness of the links between obesity and cancer.
Weight-loss consultants Stephen Martin and Janet Croal run groups in Glenboig and Bargeddie respectively and have hailed the big Slimming World clothes throw as one of their favourite events in the calendar.
Stephen said:“This is the first year we’ve held a big Slimming World clothes throw event and my members are so, so excited to take part.
“It’s such a liberating feeling having the confidence to bag up clothes you’ll never fit into again, all while raising money for an extremely important cause.”
Janet added: “My members can’t wait to make room for a new summer wardrobe by taking part; I know the atmosphere in group will be electric when we bring all of the bags together.
“When we meet each week, we laugh together, share challenges and tips for overcoming them, celebrate success and swap inspiration, tips and recipes.
“We really are one big family and I will be so proud to see them say goodbye to those larger sizes and set targets for enjoying a healthier holiday season feeling absolutely fantastic.”
