Super sides battle for the Cup Airdrie Darts League

More success for Carsons

- Mark Pirie

The top teams in the Airdrie and District Darts League battled it out for the end-of-season Super Cup.

In the last team event of the regular season, the top five league sides alongside the winner of the Harlequin Trophy competed in a round-robin style tournament.

However, The Eagle were unable to field a team and their place was taken at the last moment by The West End - who more than justified their inclusion.

In the first set of fixtures, it was Andy Begley of The Swan who caught the eye with a 180 and an 18-darter in their victory over The Clansman.

The Workmen’s B and Carsons both had convincing wins over The West End and The Post.

In the next round, The West End star Laura Pearson showed what she can do when she is on form.

A brace of 180 scores in her match against The Swan helped her team to a respectable draw.

In what was the tie of the night Carsons drew with The Workmen’s B.

An impressive 16-darter for Derek Cunningham of Carsons and a 19- darter for Gordon Hunter of the B team was the best of the action.

Carsons and The West End scored narrow victories, while the Workmen’s B suffered a setback with a draw against The Swan.

Jim Parker found his form in the end with an 18-dart win.

Every leg was vital as the night progressed - with the format meaning that there was one just point awarded for every leg won.

The Swan suffered a heavy defeat to Carsons which put the Coatbridge team in the driving seat, with Graham Anderson the star of the show and hitting a 16-darter.

The West End earned another win this time against The Clansman, but the Workmen’s B only secured a narrow win against The Post,

This meant that The Super Cup had all but been won by Carsons ahead of their final game.

The B boys needed a whitewash in the last game and hoped that Carsons would only score three legs.

Carsons beat The West End 6-2, a score that was matched by the Workies against an outof-form Clansman team.
