The 30-year-old defender ended a five- year spell at Stranraer to sign up at the Excelsior Stadium last week.

The ex-Queen of the South, Partick Thistle and Arbroath man was fully focused on a promotion push.

“I think the minimum for us should be the play- off spots,” he told the Advertiser.

“It was mid- table last season but with the guys that have been brought in and are still to come in, I think we will have come on quite a bit.

“We really should be going for the play-off places and I wouldn’t have come here if I didn’t think we had a right good chance.”

He admits it was a tough decision to leave the Blues but felt it was now or never for the switch.

He said: “I’m not a young player – I think I’ve still got a few years left but I’m not young and sometimes you just need something a bit different.

“The way things went in January with Stranraer I thought it was maybe a good idea to keep my options open and when Airdrie came along it seemed right.

“It happened pretty quickly. I spoke to Stevie and Marc about what direction they wanted to take the club.

“They wanted to build the club with professionalism and the way they spoke convinced me it was right.”
