Petersburn

Four Isles events A boxing club, for those aged eight and over, runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6pm to 8pm at the community centre. The venue also hosts an over-50s group on Mondays from noon until 2pm, a toddlers’ group for kids from birth to three years on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am until noon and prize bingo on Tuesday nights from 7pm to 9pm. Brigade events The Girls’ Brigade meet in the church hall on Monday evenings; all girls welcome. The Boys’ Brigade meet on Wednesday evenings in the same venue, with Anchor Boys taking place followed by Junior section; primary school-aged boys are invited to attend.

Youth groups The One Way Club, for children in Primary Four to Seven, and Rock Solid group, for secondary school pupils, take place on Tuesday evenings in the church hall and are led by youth worker Jenny. After 9’Ers activity group meets on Fridays from 1pm to 3pm in the community centre. Activities at the community group include arts and crafts, fitness and cooking. The weekly cost is £1.50, which includes tea and snacks.

Glenmavis

New Monkland outreach cafe is held every Wednesday at the church hall from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Chapelhall

Tenants and residents will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, June 13, at 7pm in the senior citizens’ centre. Future gatherings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month, at the same time and venue on Lauchope Street.

Townhead

Music club People can learn to play a musical instrument, including guitar and fiddle, at St Bartholome­w’s Church hall on Fridays from 8pm to 9.30pm. Lessons are followed by a folk music session until midnight, with a bar also available.

Craft group meets at Townhead Parish Church on Mondays from 9.30am to 12pm. All are welcome.

Calderbank Bowling club

Greengairs

Miners’ home Applicatio­ns to the miners’ holiday home in Couris, Fife, open to miners, their beneficiar­ies and families, are now available. The home is open from June until August; call 01383 880307 to register an interest.

Children’s committee outing The committee’s summer outing this year will be a trip to Ayr on Saturday, June 9, and it is open to all children in the village aged two-to-16. The bus leaves from the social club at 9.30am, picking up at Airdrie Sheriff Court at 9.45am and then travelling on to Ayr, where it will depart from at 6pm. Parents are asked to have their children at the pick-up places on time and return any applicatio­n forms to the committee as soon as possible.

Councillor­s’ surgeries Councillor Sophia Coyle will hold her latest surgery on Wednesday, May 23, from 6pm to 6.30pm. Councillor Tommy Morgan’s consultati­on take place on Saturday, May 26, at midday. Both councillor­s’ surgeries run in the community hall. Bingo night will take place in the Orange hall on Sundays, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker will be drawn at 8.25pm. Tickets are on sale from committee members at a cost of £1 each. Anyone who wishes to support the Lucky Joker draw can contact the committee. LLOL64 would like to thank everyone who attended the recent bingo evening; the sum of £250 was raised and will be sent to the Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Back Brae Gospel Hall The breaking of the bread takes place on Sunday at 11am. Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the

month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Stanrigg miners’ memorial is open to all who wish to visit. July 9 will mark the 100th anniversar­y of the disaster in which 19 miners lost their lives; the retired miners’ committee is arranging a remembranc­e service on Sunday, July 8, at 2pm and anyone interested in helping with the commemorat­ion can call 01236 830637. Ladies from Greengairs and Plains have already agreed to help with arrangemen­ts on the day. Transport to the memorial can also be arranged by calling the same number. Baillies Lane marching band Practice takes place on Tuesdays from 7pm to 9pm in the social club. New flute and drum learners are welcome to attend; call John on 07525 064303 for further details. Nearly-new sale update Organisers of the nearly-new sale at Ebenezer church say that, due to venue commitment­s, the only upcoming sale will take place this Friday. Stalls with goods priced 50p and under and a tea room will be on offer, with the event running from 10am until noon.
