Thug tagged

-

A Coatbridge thug who assaulted a man before robbing him of cigarettes and alcohol has been tagged.

Ryan Paul, 27, turned up at court prepared for jail as he carried a large bag with him.

But the Loanhead Street resident will instead be partially imprisoned in his own home for 145 days thanks to the attack on Woodhall Avenue last June.

The procurator fiscal told the court: “The victim suffered bruising, swelling and cuts but treatment was declined.

“Paramedics did attend but their assistance was also declined.”

Defence solicitor Tony Linden said: “The report states he has some positive things going for him

“His parents offer their full support to him.

“This is a young man who has a good work ethic and has done for some years as a window cleaner.

“There’s an option of a communitybased order and a restriction of liberty as a combination.

“He works four days a week from 10am to 3pm.”

Sheriff Frank Pieri said: “There’s a case for a custodial sentence here.

“In these circumstances I’m just persuaded there’s an alternative.

“I’ll fix a compensation order of £350 to the victim.

“I’ll place a restriction of liberty order for 145 days, reduced from 180 days due to your plea.

“You’ll remain in your home between 7pm and 7am every day of the week and if you breach this you can be jailed.”

Your solicitor has said everything he can for you. The report doesn’t do you much good.
