Doloros adores her new Chapelhall home
She is 500th tenant
Chapelhall resident Doloros Gunn became the landmark 500th tenant to move into a new property under North Lanarkshire Council’s housebuilding scheme.
Her new terraced home is one of the 30 constructed on the site of the former St Aloysius’ Primary, in a £5.2 million development.
She received a bouquet of flowers from housing convener Councillor Allan Graham and housing solutions manager Gillian Whitehead to mark the occasion.
Doloros said: “I was very surprised to be told that I’m the 500th tenant to move in, but delighted all the same.
“I’ve lived in Chapelhall for many years and when I received the offer of one of the council’s new homes I jumped at the chance; I moved from a four-in-a-block with a security entry system to a two-bedroom end terrace with its own back and front door.
“The house is finished to a high standard and it’s so private – I love my garden and being able to hang out my washing, the local housing staff couldn’t have been more helpful and I can’t say how happy and settled I feel.”
Councillors recently agreed to expand the NL Homes programme, more than doubling the number of affordable homes planned to 5000 homes by 2035.
Councillor Graham said: “It’s a pleasure to see our tenants settle in and I’m delighted Mrs Gunn is enjoying her new home.
“Building first-class, modern, affordable homes is a priority for us and our plans are hugely exciting and ambitious – we’re Scotland’s largest council landlord and are in the midst of the biggest council housebuilding programme in a generation in Scotland.
“We’re making real progress in delivering new houses across all of our communities, and look forward to welcoming many more tenants into our new homes.”
