Two groups of relatives and friends took on the annual “It’s A Knockout” challenge in support of St Andrew’s Hospice – and took their five- year grand total for the charity to £15,000.

Cairnhill resident Arthur McHugh led a group of nine relatives and friends at the event in Strathclyde Park, where they were also joined by a 10-strong team from Coatbridge gym Bannan Fitness, where Arthur trains.

Both were among hundreds of participants completing the wacky course of inflatables and obstacles during the popular annual event, run over three days to allow dozens of teams to contribute to the fundraising effort.

The combined efforts of the Monklands residents from “Team McHugh” and the Bannan Fitness group added up to a total of £2300, in what was their fifth consecutive appearance at the event.

Arthur told the Advertiser: “It’s a fantastic event and everyone always wants to be involved as we really enjoy participating; most of us have taken part in all five years.

“It’s a great laugh, having a go on all the inflatables and being big kids for two hours, competing against other teams and letting our hair down.

“The support is fantastic and we have other relatives and friends who come along to cheer us on.”

It ’ s A Knockout raises thousands of pounds each year for the hospice, and Arthur added: “They’re the big winners on the day and it’s great to be able to help.

“When I turned 50 a few years ago, I decided that I wanted to give something back and chose St Andrew’s Hospice to support as a great local charity, and we’ve been doing this event ever since.

“This year’s fundraising means our teams have now smashed the £15,000 mark since starting; I’d like to thank everyone who donated for their generosity and helping to reach such a remarkable sum.”
