Drop-in cafe will take place this Tuesday, June 5, and on June 19 at Greengairs Parish Church hall. It runs from 1pm to 3.30pm, and is open to all to enjoy tea, coffee and home baking. Children’s committee outing takes place next Saturday, June 9. The outing is a trip to Ayr and is open to all children in the village aged two to 16. The bus leaves from the social club at 9.30am, picking up at Airdrie Sheriff Court at 9.45am; it will depart from Ayr at 6pm. Parents are asked to have their children at the pick-up places on time and return any applicatio­n forms to the committee as soon as possible. Fundraisin­g dance The cancer committee will hold a fundraisin­g dance next Saturday, June 9, in the community hall from 7.30pm until midnight. Music will be supplied by Tommy Twigg and his dance band. Entry costs £5 per person and the event is open to all.

Councillor­s’ surgeries Airdrie North representa­tive Tommy Morgan, of Labour, will hold surgeries next Saturday, June 9, and on Saturday June 23. Both will take place in the community hall at 12 noon. Ward colleague Sophia Coyle of the SNP will hold surgeries at the same venue on Wednesdays, June 13 and June 27, both from 6pm to 6.30pm.

Miners’ home Applicatio­ns for use of the holiday home in Culross, Fife, are open to miners, their families and beneficiar­ies. The home is open from June until August; call 01383 880307 to register interest.

Bingo night will take place in the Orange hall on Sundays, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker will be drawn at 8.25pm. Tickets are on sale from committee members costing

Back Brae Gospel Hall The breaking of the bread takes place on Sunday at 11am. Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Stanrigg miners’ memorial is open to all who wish to visit. July 9 will mark the 100th anniversar­y of the disaster in which 19 miners lost their lives; the retired miners’ committee is arranging a remembranc­e service on Sunday, July 8, at 2pm and anyone interested in helping with the commemorat­ion can call 01236 830637. Ladies from Greengairs and Plains have already agreed to help with arrangemen­ts on the day. Transport to the memorial can also be arranged by calling the same number.

Da Capo music group meet on Mondays from 6pm to 9pm in the Orange hall on Baillies Lane. Anyone who would like to play the orchestral flute and drums is welcome to attend the group; contact John on 07525 064303.
