Gaffer looking forward to great day at hospice clash

-

He may be more used to life in the dugout at the Excelsior Stadium but Airdrie manager Stephen Findlay will be taking to the pitch to help the good cause.

Rather than taking up his usual spot on the sidelines, the gaffer is the latest name to be announced for the huge charity clash.

He hopes it will raise thousands for St Andrew’s Hospice and is looking forward to getting a run-out.

“It’s a great cause that will mean a lot to so many people,”he told the Advertiser.

“The hospice do a lot of incredible work against illness that I have no doubt will have touched everyone’s lives at some point.

“They are a huge part of the community and help so many people to offer encouragement and advice to so many.

“It should be a great day with some of the celebrities and big name players.

“I’m really looking forward to playing in the game and doing anything I can to help out.

“I have an opportunity as Airdrie manager to be able to help the community. It’s a fortunate position and it’s not a position that I take lightly.”

Findlay hopes the backing of the Readers’Room Appeal Legends Charity match will signal the start of a season of community involvement at the Diamonds.

“One thing I want from the club– and not just at the board, from the first team – is to be more involved in the community next season.

“I want the engagement with fans and the community in Airdrie to be a big part of the club. I would love to form a real relationship with the town going forward.”
