Schoolkids fill up foodbank

-

Bargeddie Primary pupils bagged up goodies for a local foodbank to help impoverished families and pets.

Fourteen kids from the pupil council stocked up on tins and produce, including pet supplies, and delivered them to Coatbridge Foodbank’s Coatbank Street premises.

A representative from the school said: “The pupil council were looking for community projects and one of the children mentioned the foodbank’s break-in.

“The children wanted to include pet food as well as foodstuffs because a lot of families put their animals before themselves.

“The kids made posters and sent letters to Viridor and Amey, who were more than happy to get on board. It turned out to be a much bigger venture than we started with.”

The project was a joint venture between the school and the two local companies.

And the kids can be seen handing over some of the donations to foodbank volunteers Eric Creaney, Angela Easton and Jean Scott.
