Spooner aims for second contract
Gartcairn’s Murray Spooner says he is aiming to win a deal with the Airdrie club ahead of the coming season.
Spooner started every league game for the MTC side last term in a campaign which saw them win promotion from the Central District Second Division for the first time.
Despite interest from other clubs, Spooner says he would welcome another season at Gartcairn as they aim to make their mark in the First Division.
He told the Advertiser: “I would welcome another season with Gartcairn.
“It’s a club very much moving in the right direction and the people working behind the scenes really need to be applauded for the work they do.
“The club approached me to sign a new contract a few weeks before our final game but the timing wasn’t right for me to make any commitments as Davie[Greig, former manager] had just announced he was stepping down.
“I was quite happy to see how things panned out and since speaking to the new gaffer Jamie [McKenzie] I was impressed by his ambition and vision for the club going forward.
“If we can keep the same boys and make a few quality additions we can challenge at
