Students’ photos used in new calendar
Monklands residents will be able to count down next year in stunning visual style by getting their hands on iconic images to adorn their desktops, bedroom walls and workplaces.
St Andrew’s Hospice has teamed up with New College Lanarkshire to produce a 2019 calendar that is sure to give the newest Little Mix, Tom Hardy and Cliff Richard releases a run for their money.
Students on the college’s NQ, HNC and HND photography courses were asked to submit pictures covering the following categories: care, compassion, love and tranquillity.
A panel of judges, including world renowned landscape photographer Colin Prior, New College Lanarkshire photography lecturers and local photographers, cast their eyes over the images.
Twelve winning entries were then painstakingly chosen to feature in the calendar in what proved to be a “very tough” selection process for the judges.
Katy McGuinness was awarded the “overall winner” prize in the calendar competition for her poignant image, entitled Fragility of Life.
Twenty- year- old Katy was presented with a signed collector’s edition of Colin Prior’s Scotland’s Greatest Landscapes book at the college’s prestigious annual awards ceremony in honour of her welldeserved success.
The fantastic final calendar will be going on sale later this year; just in time to provide a perfect stocking- filler for Christmas shoppers.
Andrew Flynn, schools and community development co-ordinator at St Andrew’s Hospice, said: “We were blown away by the number of entries we received, and the fantastic quality of the students’ work.
“It was very difficult for the panel of judges to choose just 12 photographs but we are very pleased with the final calendar and we look forward to it going on sale later this year.
“On behalf of everyone at St Andrew’s Hospice, I’d like to thank the staff and students of New College Lanarkshire for their hard work and support on this exciting project.
“We are thrilled with the final calendar and hope that as many people as possible buy it when it goes on sale later this year.”
The calendar will be priced at £5 and, when on sale, available to buy in all St Andrew’s Hospice shops.
All proceeds raised will go towards supporting the hospice’s ongoing wonderful work providing “specialist palliative care to people living with lifelimiting illnesses”.
