Kirkwood volunteers lend hand at clean-up

Project at pathway

- Judith Tonner

Kirkwood community council led groups of volunteers in cleaning up the area’s Luggie walkway.

Residents and members of local organisations spent two days transforming the pathway, which is regularly used but has become neglected in recent years.

Community council chair Richard O’Hara said: “There was a tremendous effort across both days, and we’ve certainly made a real difference to the appearance of some of the pathway already.

“Overall, it’s a large area that we need to tackle and we may need a series of events to finally achieve our ambition to completely clear the path, but it’s great to get our campaign off to such a positive start.

“We’re grateful of the support that we’ve received for this event from everyone who got involved, including the team at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland.”

Emp l o y e e s f rom the housebuilder joined in with cleaning up the walkway, which runs from Kirkwood sports barn to their new development at Bargeddie; while the company also donated £500 to the project.

Sales and marketing director Audrey Ross said: “The community council initiative to clean- up the Luggie walkway was an opportunity for team members to give their personal time to support a great local initiative that eventually everyone will benefit from.

“Hopefully our cash boost will also go some way to providing some additional planting for the area when the time is right to enhance the area further.

“We’re passionate about playing our part in the communities around our developments.”
